HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team put up a strong effort but ultimately fell to visiting No. 10 Lindenwood by a 12-6 score on Saturday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers slip to 4-6 on the year, while the Lions improve to 6-2.
Â
With 11 saves in the contest, UAH goalie
Zak Welsh extended his UAH record for career saves past the 500 mark, and he now has 502 during his five seasons wearing the Blue and White.
Â
Jake Schramm scored a goal and added an assist to have a team-high two points on the day, while each of
Hunter Coleman,
Brody Phillips,
Conor Young,
Kyle Light, and
Reid Vender added a goal.
Â
Ian Arnt and
Josh Campbell both picked up an assist in the contest.
Â
Coleman – a member of the most recent USILA D2 Team of the Week – collected seven ground balls to lead all players in the contest, while
Brayden O'Neill caused a team-high two turnovers.
Â
UAH started out strong, and at the 12:10 mark of the opening quarter, the Chargers took the lead after Arnt set up Schramm's goal, and after LU got on the board with just under six minutes left in the quarter, Phillips would score before LU tallied just prior to the end of the period to create a 2-2 score.
Â
The first goal of the second quarter was the first of four man-up goals the Lions would score in the contest, giving the guests their first lead of the game, but Young would score with 5:21 left in the stanza to tie the game back up at 3-3.
Â
After LU scored the final goal of the second to go up 4-3 at the half, the Lions would score two quick ones in the third to go ahead 6-3, and though Light and Vender would get tallies in the quarter, it was an 8-5 advantage for the Lions going into the final period.
Â
Lindenwood then scored four straight to effectively seal the contest, and Coleman's tally off the face-off with 1:26 left in the game wrapped up the scoring.
Â
The Lions built up a 32-28 edge in shots on the day including a wider 23-15 advantage in shots on target, and UAH would end up turning the ball over 26 times compared to just 16 for Lindenwood.Â
Â
UAH will now turn its attention solely to conference play for the rest of the regular season, starting with next Saturday's visit from Shorter. That contest on Military Appreciation Day at Charger Park is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
