HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville's
Layton Murphy has been selected as the GSC Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Â
This is the first weekly honor for Murphy, and she becomes the second Charger to win an award this season after
Sadie Thompson was named the Freshman of the Week last Tuesday.
Â
In UAH's series win at then-No. 17 West Florida, Murphy went 2-0 in the circle while posting a 1.80 ERA and holding the Argos to a .171 batting average, and she struck out nine batters in 11.2 innings of work.
Â
In the first game of the series, Murphy went 6.2 innings in picking up the victory, striking out two and working around six hits. The Marbury, Alabama, native then tossed five innings of one-hit relief work while striking out four, helping keep her in team in it so the offense could win the contest in extra innings.
Â
On the season, Murphy has nine victories and has struck out 47, and for her career, she has 61 wins to rank sixth all-time at UAH and 327 strikeouts to rank eighth.
