HUNTSVILLE | The NCAA Division II Softball Committee released the first edition of the ever-important South Region rankings, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville sixth this week in the poll that determines seeding for the national tournament.
Â
At the conclusion of the regular season and conference tournaments, the rankings will be used to seed the eight teams that make the NCAA South Regional portion of the national field. The top two teams in the region will host the four-team regionals, and the highest remaining team after that round will host the South Super Regional.
Â
Joining UAH as teams from the Gulf South Conference to be featured in the poll are No. 1 Auburn Montgomery, third-ranked Valdosta State, eighth-ranked Mississippi College, and No. 10 West Florida.
Â
The Sunshine State Conference has the other five teams in the poll with Tampa at second, Nova Southeastern checking in at No. 4, No. 7 Rollins, and ninth-ranked Saint Leo.
Â
UAH will be back in action on Thursday when it closes out its slate of non-conference contests for the regular season with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Lincoln Memorial.Â
Â
Those contests have the potential to aid UAH in the regional rankings as the Railsplitters are currently No. 4 in the Southeast Region.
