Audrey Williams Set for Induction into GSC Hall of Fame

5/2/2022 3:00:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference will enshrine its 2022 Hall of Fame class on Wednesday night, and former UAH softball standout Audrey Williams is among the five who will be honored.

The ceremony is set for 6 p.m. in Pensacola, Florida, and it will be streamed live on the GSC's Facebook page.

"The Gulf South Conference is built by amazing individuals committed to outstanding institutions and this Hall of Fame class is a great example," said GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. "We are excited to honor another group of influential former student-athletes and administrators."

Williams will become the seventh UAH representative in the GSC Hall of Fame, including former men's basketball player Josh Magette who will also be enshrined on Wednesday after the 2020 ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams was terrific for the Chargers during her career, being thrice honored as the Second Team All-American at shortstop in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and she was also a First Team All-South Region choice and a First Team All-GSC selection for each of those three campaigns.

Helping the Chargers win three straight GSC tournaments in addition to a pair of NCAA South Region titles in 1999 and 2001, she continues to feature prominently in the GSC record book as she ranks in the following categories: career games (t-1st/270), career at-bats (3rd/786), career runs (7th/204), career hits (2nd/314), career doubles (t-7th/63), and career assists (10th/500).

At UAH, she is tied for the single-game records in hits with five – she had two five-hit games – and total bases with 12, and her name appears nine different times in single-season records including being second with 68 runs scored in 1999. For her career, she is UAH's all-time leader in hits while ranking in nine other categories.

Williams joins fellow UAH softball alums Lane Davis, Stephanie Pinto, Melanie Carter, and Wendy Hurst-Stewart in the GSC Hall of Fame, in addition to Magette and late former Director of Athletics Jim Harris.
