HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team is set to open up play at the 2022 Gulf South Conference Softball Championships on Wednesday, as the fourth-seeded Chargers will take on No. 5 seed Lee at 3:30 p.m. at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala.

Tickets for the GSC Softball Championship will be $10 per day are available online and at the Choccolocco Park box office. Parking for the event will be $5 per day.

Additionally, the tournament will be streamed on FloSports. More information on how to sign up FloSports is available here.

UAH – which enters the postseason on a 14-game winning streak – completed the regular season at 35-14 overall and 21-9 in conference play, and the squad is making its 26th consecutive trip to the conference tournament, having never missed out on the event since the program began.

Overall at the GSC tournament the Chargers are 70-35 with 12 championship game appearances and eight titles.

If the Blue and White is to add to its championship total, they will be looking to several key contributors to aid them in that effort.

Shelby Booker heads into the postseason leading the team in batting average with .427 mark while scoring a team-high 46 times, while Kiara Akles has a team-best 50 RBI to her credit thanks in part to her 10 doubles and 10 home runs. Kaylee Vaught also has swung a hot bat this year, batting .417 with 40 RBI and 42 runs scored.

During the team's hot stretch of late, others have also started to warm up including Gracie Green who batted .800 in the three-game series against West Alabama to close out the regular season, and she has at least a hit in 11 of her last 13 appearances, while Mackenzie Nutt has 11 RBI in the last eight games while batting .429 during that stretch.

UAH will also look to continued strong showings in the circle, led by senior Layton Murphy who did not lose a game since the end of March, going 10-0 during that time frame, and she allowed one run or no runs in eight appearances in that stretch.

Freshman Megan Shurtz has also been terrific, posting a 14-4 record on the season with a 2.16 ERA while striking out 84 and walking only 15 batters in 103.2 innings of work.

UAH will face a Lee team that went 27-21 overall and 17-12 in conference during the regular season.

Breanna Patton is hitting .419 to lead the Flames in batting average, while Taylor De Adder has hit eight home runs to drive in a team-best 41 runs on the season. In the circle, Nyah Vogel leads the way with a 14-8 record and a 2.88 ERA to go along with 83 strikeouts.

When the two teams met earlier this year in Cleveland, the Flames took two of three from UAH, but the Chargers lead the all-time series by an 18-5 margin.

This will mark the second time that the two teams have met in the GSC tournament, as UAH was a 2-1 winner last year against the Flames who became the 18th different team UAH has faced in the postseason event.
