OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville sixth-seeded baseball team dropped a Sunday matchup to fifth-seeded Lee by a final score of 8-5 on day three of the 2022 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships at Choccolocco Park. UAH slides to 27-24, while LU improves to 30-21.

UAH moves on to an elimination game at 11 a.m. on Monday against No. 1 seed Delta State. The Chargers are 8-12 all-time against the Statesmen at the GSC tournament.

The Chargers offense collected 11 base hits against the Flames on Sunday, led by
Garrett Bodine,
Jeff Hunter,
Jackson Lindsey and
Brennan Vasquez with two hits apiece. Lindsey additionally had a team-high three runs scored and two walks.

Vasquez and Hunter tied for the team lead in RBI with two each, as Vasquez notched a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Hunter had two RBI base hits including an RBI double in the second.

Wells Deloney started on the mound for the Chargers, and he turned in 5.1 innings with five earned runs allowed, two walks and 10 strikeouts. He took the loss to drop to 2-2 this season.

The Chargers had the first lead of the game on Hunter's RBI double to left in the second, but the Flames would rally for three runs in the third to retake the lead.

After Lee extended its lead in the top of the fourth with a solo home run, UAH rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie it 4-4 thanks Vasquez's two-run homer and a RBI single by Bodine.

The Flames regained their lead in the top fifth inning with two runs, which was followed by a RBI single by Hunter in the bottom half to make it a one-run game at 6-5. LU added two more runs in the seventh, and would hang on for the 8-5 win on Sunday.

This was the second matchup all-time in the GSC tournament between UAH and Lee, as the Chargers are amidst the program's 20th appearance.
