MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's cross country team opened up the 2022 campaign at the Montevallo Invitational on Friday morning with a first-place team finish in a field of 12 competing squads.

This is the first time UAH has finished atop the team standings in a race since the West Georgia Invitational on Oct. 10, 2020.

The Chargers placed six runners in the top 10 of the field on Friday morning, led by
Emily McMurry's first-place performance at a time of 18:54.86.

She was joined in the top three by
Abby Weist in second with a 19:02.61 clocking and
Taylor Engram with a third-place time of 19:12.03.

Claudia Dassow (6th, 19:38.19),
Amelia Brady (7th, 19:39.42), and
Tatiana Padgett (8th, 19:39.58) also notched top 10 times at Montevallo.

The Chargers racers on Friday morning additionally included
Paige Wohlgemuth (26th, 21:28.92),
Taylor Simmons (41st, 22:09.09), and
Grace Hampel (43rd, 22:14.24).

UAH looks ahead to the Mississippi College Watson Classic next Saturday in Clinton, Mississippi.
