BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly women's basketball award winners, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Bellah Machen as GSC Freshman of the Week.
 
This is the second GSC Freshman of the Week award by a Charger this season and the first weekly honor in Machen's career.
 
A native of Morris, Alabama, Machen led the Chargers offense with 15.5 points per game over two contests this past week while shooting 55.5 percent from the field and 45.5 percent on three-pointers.
 
Machen's top performance of the week was a season-high 17 points in Wednesday's matchup with Montevallo, with the freshman going 7-for-12 from the field in the game. She additionally added 14 points Saturday's victory over West Alabama to give her back-to-back games with 10 points or more for the first time in her career.
 
The Chargers look ahead to a pair of road games this week with trips to Shorter on Thursday and Lee on Saturday.
