UAH Cruises Past West Florida for Ninth GSC Win

PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team topped West Florida on the road by a final score of 69-51 on Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 14-4 (9-3 GSC), while UWF slips to 7-9 (3-9 GSC).
 
Jack Kostel had a stellar all-around performance for the Chargers with a team-high 14 points, four assists and five steals in addition to grabbing five rebounds. Kostel shot 5-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from beyond the arc to lead the UAH offense.
 
Dalton Dodd, Daniel Saylor and Max Shulman each posted nine points in the contest to rate tied for second on the UAH offense, as a total of six Chargers had eight points or more on Saturday.
 
Saylor additionally pulled in a team-high six rebounds while recording a roster-leading two blocks.
 
The Chargers shot 51.0 percent from the field (25-49) for the contest including a 41.7 percent mark on three-pointers (10-24).
 
Overall in the victory, UAH held the edge over West Florida in bench points (24-6), steals (8-4), points off turnovers (8-2), and points in the paint (28-12).
 
A slow start by both offenses had the Chargers ahead by just two points at 14-12 with 7:52 remaining, but UAH powered through with a 24-12 run over the remainder of the first half to lead 34-19.
 
The Chargers shot 61.9 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent on three-pointers in the opening half, with Max Shulman pouring in a team-high nine points in the frame. A total of eight UAH players had at least two points in the first half.
 
West Florida slimmed the UAH lead to 45-39 by the 13:16 mark of the second half, which the Chargers responded to with a 21-8 run over the ensuing seven minutes of play to propel the Blue & White to the 69-51 win on Saturday.
 
UAH improves to 41-16 all-time against the Argos, with the Chargers having won each of the past four matchups.
 
The Chargers are back in action next Saturday with a trip to Auburn Montgomery.
