Volleyball Claims Sweep Over Christian Brothers

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team secured a sweep against Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers on Friday night in Spragins Hall with a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-8, 25-23).

The Chargers improved to 11-5 (7-2 GSC), while the Bucs fell to 2-18 (1-7 GSC). UAH remained undefeated at home with a 7-0 record at Kelly Court.

Autumn Mayes highlighted the Charger offense for the night as she tallied 11 kills with a stellar .647 hitting percentage.

Savannah Rutledge and Kelsey Gasaway split time at setter much of the match, with Rutledge dishing out 22 assists and Gasaway putting up 10. The freshman also put away the second set with three consecutive aces, a team high total for the match.

Defensively, UAH had two players with double digit digs, with Mayes leading the category at 13, while libero Hailey Holshouser recorded 10. Zoe Smith denied the Bucs twice to lead the team in blocks.

The first set went the way of UAH 25-19, as they hit .353 in the set and put up 17 kills.

A runaway second set went to the Chargers 25-8 as they tallied four service aces and a .600 hitting percentage.

The clinching third set was a back and forth affair as CBU out-hit the Chargers in attack percentage, but ultimately fell 25-23.

UAH gets back to the court tomorrow as they host Union at 2 p.m.
