Volleyball Sweeps Homecoming Weekend With Win Over Union

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team won their second match of homecoming weekend as they swept a Gulf South Conference opponent against Union on Saturday afternoon in Spragins Hall with a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-20, 25-17). 

The Chargers improved to 12-5 (8-2 GSC), while the Bulldogs dropped to 3-18 (2-7 GSC).

Zoe Smith led the Chargers in kills with 14 for the match while hitting a .481 attack percentage. Additionally, freshman Kelsey Gasaway contributed four service aces to aid the UAH offense, bringing her total for the weekend to seven aces. 

On defense, UAH had two players total double-digit digs, with Autumn Mayes tallying 12 and Gracie McGee putting up 10. 

The Chargers denied the Bulldogs 10 times in the match as the GSC's leader in blocks per set, Mary Grace Bundrant swatted 3.5 blocks. Mayes also contributed three blocks for the UAH defense.

The first set went the way of UAH 25-19, as they hit .368 in the set and put up 16 kills. 

In the second set, the Chargers put up four blocks and a pair of service aces to win the set 25-20.

Clinching the match in the third set, UAH put up four more blocks and leaned on 10 errors from the Bulldogs to take it 25-17.

The Chargers look forward to three matches against Sunshine State Conference opponents at the South Region Crossover in Orlando starting on Friday.
