Volleyball Falls in Pair of Saturday Matches at South Region Crossover

ORLANDO | The UAH volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the South Region Crossover against Sunshine State Conference opponents on Saturday, falling to Embry-Riddle 3-1 (20-25, 25-19, 14-25, 21-25) and Eckerd 3-0 (22-25, 14-25, 22-25).

The Chargers dropped to 12-8 with the losses on Saturday, while Embry-Riddle is now 15-6 and Eckerd is 18-3.

The first match of the day saw Embry-Riddle take the first set 25-20 before UAH stormed back with a 25-19 win in set two, a set in which they led 23-11 at one point. The Eagles ran away with set three 25-14 before closing out the match in the fourth at 25-21.

In the match against Eckerd, the Tritons took set one 25-22, claimed a 25-15 victory in set two, and won a 25-22 clinching third set.

Over the course of the two matches, three Chargers surpassed double-digit kills as Zoe Smith led the way with 18 kills. Autumn Mayes followed with 17 kills across two matches, while Caroline Moyer had 13.

Mary Grace Bundrant led UAH in blocks, posting a total of seven on the day, while Kiara Hill had six blocks. Leading the Chargers in assists was Savannah Rutledge who averaged 7.43 assists per set and a total of 52 for the day.

The Chargers resume Gulf South Conference play on Wednesday as they travel to Clinton, Mississippi, to take on Mississippi College.
