Sam Wilhelm earned an individual berth to the 2023 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships with a third-place finish at the NCAA South Regional on Saturday morning with the Chargers finishing fourth in the team standings.

Wilhelm garners his second straight individual berth to Nationals as one of the top three highest-placing runners in the race not on a Nationals-qualifying team.Â

The Knob Noster, Missouri, native ran the fastest 10k in program history on Saturday with a third-place clocking of 29:57.7, which tops the previous record set by Wilhelm himself at the 2022 NCAA National Championships at 30:45.6.

Wilhelm was joined as an All-South Region honoree by
Nathan Knox, who garnered 12th overall at a time of 30:48.5. Knox's time on Saturday now ranks third in program history for a 10k race.
