HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team began Gulf South Conference play for the 2023 campaign with a doubleheader split against Lee at Charger Park with the Chargers winning the first 14-0 in seven innings before falling in the nightcap 4-2. UAH's record now stands at 6-4 (1-1 GSC), while LU moves to 4-6 (1-1 GSC).

UAH 14, LU 0 (7 innings)
After going up 2-0 after the first, UAH piled on a nine-run rally in the bottom of the second as the Chargers cruised to their first GSC victory of the season by a score of 14-0 on Saturday.

Connor Brooks tossed a one-hit shutout in the first game of the day, as he twirled 7.0 innings with four strikeouts and one walk allowed. He improves to 1-1 with the win.

UAH amassed 12 base hits in the victory, led by
Garrett Bodine and
Mitchell Rottier with three hits apiece. Rottier registered a team-high three runs and three RBI, while Bodine added two runs and two RBI.

Bodine's hit streak extended to 42 games with his 3-for-4 day at the plate, prior to going hitless in game two.

Both
Brock Butler and
Brennan Vasquez went 1-for-4 with a double, one run and three RBI to tie Rottier for the team lead in runs driven in.

Carson Villalta and
Jackson Lindsey both drew a team-high two walks.

LU 4, UAH 2
A four-run top of the sixth by the Flames keyed the game-two victory for the visitors on Saturday, as UAH scored one run apiece in the fourth and seventh innings to fall 4-2 in the night cap.

Butler hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh, as he went 1-for-3 in the contest.

Villalta gave the Chargers two extra-base hits in the contest, as he ripped triple in the bottom of the fourth and would score later that inning on
Landon Ezzell's RBI single.

Andre Orselli started on the mound in game two for the Chargers, turning in 5.2 innings with two earned runs allowed and 10 strikeouts. He took the loss to fall to 0-1 on the season.

Will Hotalen was strong out of the bullpen with 1.1 shutout innings that included a pair of strikeouts.
