ROME, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team extended their win streak to five games after they took game one of a Gulf South Conference series at Shorter with a strong defensive performance in a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. UAH improved to 14-11 (6-4 GSC), while Shorter fell to 11-12 (6-7 GSC).
The Chargers scored a run in each of the first two innings as junior
Carson Villalta scored both runs for the Charger offense, using a hit-by-pitch in the first inning to work his way around the bases to eventually score on a
Jackson Lindsey sacrifice fly.Â
The National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association's South Region Player of the Week was not done, as Villalta launched a solo home run in the second inning to put the Chargers up by two runs. Lindsey also recorded a double for UAH's only other extra-base hit in the game.
On the mound,
Connor Brooks went 7.2 innings, faced 29 batters and surrendered just one run. The Auburn, Alabama, native gave up four hits and struck out a pair during his pitching performance.
Will Hotalen entered the game for a four-out save and recorded his third save in the span of one week.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow in a doubleheader against Shorter beginning at noon.
