HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped a high octane matchup against Gulf South Conference opponent No. 12 West Georgia on Friday afternoon at Charger Park. The Chargers fell to 15-14 (6-7 GSC), while the Wolves improved to 22-5 (10-3 GSC) in the 13-7 contest.
The two teams combined for seven home runs in the game, with the Chargers launching four over the fence with a strong breeze to left and center field that aided the batters from both teams.
At the plate, UAH was led by
Landon Ezzell who went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, and two RBI. In the sixth inning, Ezzell smacked his sixth homer of the year over the left field fence and
Brennan Vasquez followed it up with a home run of his own, also his sixth of the year.
The Chargers weren't done in their highest scoring inning, as
Will Noles stepped up to the plate and knocked a two-run shot, his first of the season, to cap off the inning.
On the mound,
Connor Brooks got the start as he went 5.2 innings, allowed six earned runs and struck out three Wolves.
Trey Wright was saddled with the loss in this one as he gave up two earned runs, including the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh.
Carson Herring made an appearance in the top of the ninth and pitched a scoreless inning as he struck out two.
The Chargers and Wolves will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
