UAH Slips in Both Games of Doubleheader at No. 8 Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at No. 8 Montevallo by scores of 5-0 and 2-1 on Saturday afternoon to start a three-game Gulf South Conference series. UAH slides to 8-10 (1-4 GSC), while UM improves to 15-1 (5-0 GSC).
 
The Chargers and Falcons wrap up the three-game set at noon on Sunday.
 
UM 5, UAH 0
Montevallo scored all five of its runs in the first five innings, which UAH would not recover from as the Chargers fell 5-0 in the series-opener.
 
UAH recorded seven base hits as a team, led by Garrett Bodine, Landon Ezzell and Jackson Lindsey with two hits apiece. Ezzell additionally drew the squad's lone walk of the contest.
 
Connor Brooks started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 5.0 innings with five runs allowed – four earned – with three strikeouts. Brooks took the loss to slide to 1-3 this season.
 
Ben Capps, Cory Hagood and Trey Wright each had scoreless innings out of the bullen.
 
UM 2, UAH 1
Game two of the day went down to the wire with the Chargers and Falcons tied 1-1 entering the ninth, as Montevallo would go on to win 2-1 on a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Andre Orselli was efficient overall on the mound for the Chargers in his fifth start of the season, tossing 6.0 innings with two runs allowed, zero walks and three strikeouts. His record slides to 1-2 in 2023.
 
Garrett Bodine drove in the Chargers lone run of the game with an RBI single in the fifth, as he went 1-for-2 on the day with a walk.
 
Lindsey posted a team-high two base hits to give him four total in the doubleheader.
