8/17/2023 2:23:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville cross country and track & field head coach David Cain announced the hiring of Jacob Bishop as assistant coach.

A four-year member of the UAH men's cross country team and track & field team, Bishop has been hired to primarily work with the Chargers cross country squads and distance runners.

In his final cross country season in 2021, Bishop garnered both First Team All-Gulf South Conference and All-South Region honors.

He was also a key contributor to UAH's GSC Championships in 2019, 2020 and 2021, as he owns the seventh-fastest 10k time and two of the fastest 25 8k times in program history.

Bishop also performed well on the track for the Blue & White, garnering Second Team All-GSC in the 3000-meter steeplechase in 2022. He additionally still owns the program's record in the indoor mile and outdoor 3000-meter steeplechase, and his mastery of the 3000-meter steeplechase was evident by his qualifying in the event for the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships.

UAH men's and women's cross country starts off the 2023 campaign at the Appalachian State Invitational in Boone, North Carolina, on Friday, Sept. 1. The Chargers home meet for the new campaign is set for the morning of Oct. 7 at the immaculate John Hunt Park.
