Cross Country Squads Open Season at Appalachian State Invitational

BOONE, N.C. | The UAH men's and women's cross country teams started out the 2023 campaign at the Appalachian State Invitational on Friday afternoon with the men's team notching fourth overall and the women's squad finishing sixth.
 
Emily McMurry guided the UAH women in 19th overall at a time of 18:46.4, while Sam Wilhelm had the Chargers leading time of 24:27.4 for sixth in the men's race. Wilhelm's time was the fastest amongst Divison II runners at the race as well.
 
Wilhelm was one of seven Charger runners in the top 50 of the men's 8k, as the junior was joined by Nate Pohlsander (20th, 25:20.4), Jack Elliott (25th, 25:31.8), Gabe Henneberger (28th, 25:37.2), Noah George (29th, 25:43.5), Nathan Knox (30th, 25:52.9), Will Anglea (34th, 26:03.7), Will Thompson (41st, 26:18.8), and Conner Patterson (49th, 26:34.0) amongst the top 50 finishers in the field.
 
Asa Mazow (51st, 26:36.7), Corey Adamski (52nd, 26:39.3), Jonah Frey (43rd, 26:40.3), Colsen Palmer (56th, 26:46.1), Taylor Nails (57th, 26:49.4), Nate Shingleton (65th, 27:09.5), Conner Hampton (66th, 27:12.5), Jonathan Collett (69th, 27:21.1), Jackson Danner (73rd, 27:27.7), Jacob Kachadorian (79th, 27:36.5), Keegan Verble (82nd, 27:44.1), James Cain (83rd, 27:50.7), Peyton Bailey (88th, 27:57.6), Weston Ellison (91st, 28:10.1), and Jacob Jones (99th, 28:54.0) also competed for the Chargers on Friday.
 
On the women's side, McMurry was aided by two teammates in the top 50 of the field as well including Amelia Brady (23rd, 18:53.4) and Abby Weist (32nd, 19:15.1).
 
The Chargers additionally featured performances on Friday by Sophia Knox (54th, 20:08.3), Mary Frances Mattingly (58th, 20:11.8), Grace Hampel (64th, 20:25.1), Elizabeth Cain (69th, 20:32.1), Holly Sillivant (70th, 20:33.4), Paige Wohlgemuth (71st, 20:34.8), and Taylor Simmons (91st, 23:33.7).
 
UAH is back in action on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Montevallo Falcon Twilight.
