BOONE, N.C. | The UAH men's and women's cross country teams started out the 2023 campaign at the Appalachian State Invitational on Friday afternoon with the men's team notching fourth overall and the women's squad finishing sixth.

Emily McMurry guided the UAH women in 19th overall at a time of 18:46.4, while
Sam Wilhelm had the Chargers leading time of 24:27.4 for sixth in the men's race. Wilhelm's time was the fastest amongst Divison II runners at the race as well.

Wilhelm was one of seven Charger runners in the top 50 of the men's 8k, as the junior was joined by
Nate Pohlsander (20th, 25:20.4),
Jack Elliott (25th, 25:31.8),
Gabe Henneberger (28th, 25:37.2),
Noah George (29th, 25:43.5),
Nathan Knox (30th, 25:52.9),
Will Anglea (34th, 26:03.7),
Will Thompson (41st, 26:18.8), and
Conner Patterson (49th, 26:34.0) amongst the top 50 finishers in the field.

On the women's side, McMurry was aided by two teammates in the top 50 of the field as well including
Amelia Brady (23rd, 18:53.4) and
Abby Weist (32nd, 19:15.1).
