Volleyball Sweeps Union to Start Weekend Road Trip

Jackson, Tenn. | The UAH volleyball team got back in the win column on Thursday evening as they swept Union in a Gulf South Conference road match 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-16). 

The Chargers improved to 15-2 (6-1 GSC) with the win, while the Bulldogs fell to 4-11 (2-4 GSC). 

UAH and Union exchanged blows in the first set with the lead changing hands five times, ending in a 7-1 run for the Chargers and a 25-19 set victory. The Blue & White would never trail again in the final two sets of the match, winning 25-20 and 25-16, respectively.

Autumn Mayes had an efficient night on the offensive end as she notched 12 kills on a .476 hitting percentage to go along with 11 digs and a service ace. 

Kayla Ward recorded eight kills for the match with a .615 hitting percentage, two solo blocks, and three block assists as she moved into first place in blocks per set (1.25) in the GSC this season. 

Savannah Rutledge dished out 19 assists and one service ace as Kelsey Gasaway assisted on 12 kills and tallied two aces. Mary Grace Bundrant had two solo blocks and a block assist to aid the Charger defense, while Tatiana Bonilla had 16 digs to lead UAH in the category.

The Chargers will take on Christian Brothers tomorrow in a match at 6 pm to wrap up their Tennessee road trip.
