Cross Country Wraps Regular Season with UAH Chargers Invitational Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's and women's cross country teams hosted the UAH Chargers Invitational on Saturday morning at John Hunt Park with the men's team finishing second overall and the women's team placing 12th as a squad.
 
Senior Sam Wilhelm highlighted the men's 8k race by finishing second overall in a field of over 300 runners, as he posted a time of 23:31.10 on Saturday. Wilhelm's time on Saturday is the second-fastest for an 8k race in program history.
 
Wilhelm was joined by three teammates in the top 20 at the UAH Chargers Invitational, with Noah George in 12th at 24:11.3, Nathan Knox in 16th at 24:16.0 and Nate Pohlsander in 19th at 24:20.7.
 
The Chargers also benefitted from top-100 performances on Saturday by Dakota Frank (43rd, 24:56.2), Conner Patterson (49th, 24:57.3), Jonah Frey (56th, 25:00.4), Conner Hampton (57th, 25:01.1), and Cole Robinson (62nd, 25:03.7).
 
In the women's 6k competition, freshman Lucy Barker led the way for the Chargers in 47th place at a clocking of 22:08.2. Barker's time in Saturday's 6k ranks 14th all-time in program history.
 
She was joined in the top 100 by five teammates, including Aylin Vega (69th, 22:30.1), Amelia Brady (73rd, 22:33.1), Tamsyn Gibbs (86th, 22:43.1), Abby Weist (92nd, 22:54.0) and Sophia Knox (95th, 22:56.9).
 
Saturday's race served as the final regular season tune-up for the Chargers as UAH now looks ahead to the start of the postseason at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Clinton, Mississippi.
