Volleyball Improves to 5-0 in Conference Play With Win Over Valdosta State

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team won their ninth consecutive match on Friday night with a 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-12, 25-19) victory over Valdosta State in Spragins Hall.

The Chargers improved to 14-1 (5-0 GSC) with the win, while the Blazers fell to 7-6 (1-2 GSC).

Friday night's victory marks the tenth match this season in which UAH has recorded nine or more blocks, as the nation's fourth best in blocks per set have been stout at the net.

Autumn Mayes led the Charger offense with 17 kills on a .282 hitting percentage, while Caroline Moyer (13 kills, .303 hitting percentage) and Kayla Ward (10 kills, .600 hitting percentage) joined the senior in double digit kills.

Savannah Rutledge piled up the assists on Friday with a season-high 32 and Tatiana Bonilla contributed four aces to the winning cause.

Six Chargers recorded the team's nine blocks, with Mary Grace Bundrant, Zoe Smith, Grace-Blythe Cornett, Ward, Moyer, and Mayes all getting in on the block party. Ward led the way with five.

UAH welcomes West Florida tomorrow at 2 pm in Spragins Hall to wrap up a three-match home stand.
