Women's Soccer Wins Second Straight on the Road at AUM Sunday

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The UAH women's soccer team finished off the weekend with a 3-2 victory at Auburn Montgomery on Sunday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action. UAH improves to 4-4-1 (3-1-1 GSC), while AUM slides to 2-5-1 (0-4-0 GSC).

This is the first time UAH has won back-to-back road GSC games since 2011, and also the first six-point weekend in the GSC standings for the Chargers since 2014.

The Chargers scored first against the Warhawks on Sunday with a goal in the 26th minute from Sabrina Da Silva for her third goal of the season, as UAH took the 1-0 advantage into halftime. Maialen Mera picked up her team-best third assist of the season on Da Silva's goal.

Both sides scored twice in the second half, highlighted by markers from Jayla Gillespie and Michella Tortelli in the 84th minute and 86th minute, respectively, to guide UAH to the 3-2 victory at AUM. Both Gillespie and Tortelli scored their third goals of the season, as each also potted a goal twice this weekend.

CeCe Szopa played the full time in goal for the Chargers, as she was aided by 90-minute defensive efforts by teammates Emily Labus and Hannah Szopa. UAH limited AUM to only three shots on goal and two corner kicks.

The Chargers posted 11 shots on goal against the Warhawks, led by Carmen Endicott with five shots on target. UAH has notched 11 shots on goal in back-to-back games.

UAH returns home next weekend with matches slated against Christian Brothers on Friday and Union on Sunday.
