LEBANON, Ill. | The UAH men's basketball team won the first of their two-game slate at the McKendree DII Classic presented by State Farm on Thursday evening with a 76-62 victory over McKendree.
The win improved the No. 23 Chargers to 3-1 overall on the year, while the Bearcats fell to 3-2.
The Bearcats took a lead at the 15:57 mark and led all the way to 6:03 of the first half before the Blue & White tied the game at 29-29, ultimately taking the lead with 2:08 left in the half and holding it for the remainder of the contest.
UAH went on a 17-6 run to ice the game away in the final five minutes.
Tommy Murr led the Chargers in points with 27 on an 8-15 performance from the field and an 8-8 showing at the free throw line. The Athens, Alabama, native had six boards and six assists and went 3-5 from three.
Blake Campbell totaled 17 points with eight rebounds and seven assists to lead the Chargers in each category.
Daniel Saylor and
Griffin Cooper each denied a Bearcat shot in the game, while Matthew Thurman,
Luke Burnett, and Saylor each added a steal.
The Chargers held a narrow advantage in points off turnovers 8-to-6 and second-chance points 7-to-6.
Next up for UAH is a matchup against UMSL tomorrow evening at 5:30.
