LEBANON, Ill. | The No. 23 UAH men's basketball team won a Friday evening matchup with UMSL in a 74-63 victory at Harry M. Statham Sports Center on the campus of McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill.
The win moved the Chargers to 4-1 overall and dropped the Tritons to 0-5 to start the 2024-25 campaign.
The matchup between the two teams was the first time UAH has played a team from Missouri since 1985 when they dropped an 89-62 contest to UMKC. UAH is now 4-1 all-time against Missouri schools.
The first five minutes of action saw four lead changes before UAH grabbed hold at the 14:40 mark to never drop the lead again to UMSL. A 29-10 run ended the first half for the Blue & White as they went into the half with a 39-22 lead.
A 15-19 performance as a team from the free throw line proved to be a deciding factor for the Blue & White as they held a seven free throw advantage over the Tritons.
Tommy Murr led the Chargers in points with 23 on an 8-14 showing from the field and a 6-6 tally from the free throw line.
Daniel Saylor was the anchor for the Chargers on both ends of the court, however, as the senior was dominant down low, scoring 14 points on 6-8 shooting with 14 rebounds, five blocks, and three steals. The big man's rebounds, blocks, and steals are all season-highs for the Chargers.
Saylor's five blocks are the most by a Charger since Kip Owens blocked six shots in a game on January 2, 2017.
UAH outmuscled the Tritons in points in the paint 38-30 and also pushed the pace for a 9-2 advantage in fastbreak points.
Next up for UAH is a road matchup against Trevecca Nazarene on November 27 in what will be the teams' first matchup as Gulf South Conference opponents.
