HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's and women's cross country teams are set to run at the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country South Region Championships at John Hunt Park on Saturday morning. The men's 10k race is slated for 9 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the women's 6k at 10:15 a.m.

The UAH men enter the South Regional as the No. 14 ranked team nationally and the No. 2 team within the region, after coming in second at the Gulf South Conference Championships in Clinton, Mississippi on Oct. 26.

Senior Sam Wilhelm has been the Chargers guiding force in the 2024 campaign, highlighted by his GSC Individual Championship on Oct. 26. Overall, UAH boasted three All-GSC performers, and eight of the Chargers finished in the top 30 of the league.

Last season, UAH placed fourth in the team standings at the NCAA South Regional with a total of five UAH runners finishing in the top 30 led by Wilhelm in third.

On the women's side, the Chargers enter the regional championship as the USTFCCCA's fifth-highest ranked team in the South Region as UAH most recently garnered second at the GSC Championships.

Aylin Vega led the Chargers with a Second Team All-GSC performance at the GSC Championships with a twelfth-place time of 22:45.8. All ten Chargers finished in the top 40 of the league's championship race.

UAH placed eighth overall at the 2023 NCAA Division II South Region Championships in Montevallo, Alabama, with former Charger Emily McMurry posting UAH's top time in eighth place.

The top three teams from both races will advance to the 2024 NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 23, in Sacramento, California. The two highest-placing runners from a non-advancing team will earn an individual berth to Nationals as well.

The top 25 individual finishers will be named to the All-South Region squad.
