Baseball Topples Truman State in Saturday Doubleheader

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team won the first two games of a three-game series against Truman State on Saturday, winning 7-6 in game one and 13-4 in game two. The Chargers are now 10-4, while the Bulldogs are 1-8. 

Game three of the series with Truman State will begin at noon tomorrow as UAH looks to secure the series sweep. Following the weekend, the Chargers will travel to Tuskegee for a midweek game on Tuesday.

G1: UAH 7, TSU 6

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Chargers fell behind 4-0 before scoring their first runs in the fifth inning as they went on to score all of their seven runs of the game in the final four innings. 

Caleb Mahan and Hunter Tillman led UAH at the plate in the game, combining to go 7-for-7 at the plate, with Tillman recording the first triple of the season for the Chargers. Mahan and Tillman each had an RBI, as Merik Carter contributed one and Carson Villalta tallied two RBI. 

On the mound, Jacob Peters started and threw 5.0 innings, followed by Tanner Giles in relief. Carson Herring was the winning pitcher in relief of Giles as he threw 2.0 innings with one earned run on one hit. Cory Hagood grabbed his sixth save of the season and leads the nation in the category. 

G2: UAH 13, TSU 4

In game two, UAH scored in four innings of the seven inning game, kicking the game off with a six run second inning. 

Eleven different Charger batters recorded hits in the game as Austin Reed, Villalta, Carter each had multiple hits. Reed had four RBI, while Villalta had two RBI. 

Will Hotalen got the start and his first win of the season after throwing 4.2 innings on the mound as he struck out seven Bulldog batters and gave up just one earned run.
