Baseball Nabs Pair of Wins in Thursday Doubleheader Against McKendree

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team took a pair of victories in a Thursday doubleheader against McKendree in non-conference play at Charger Park, winning game one 10-6 and game two 12-11. UAH improved to 4-2 on the season, while McKendree fell to 0-2. 

UAH turns around for the final game of the series against McKendree tomorrow morning at 11 am at Charger Park.

Game 1: UAH 10 - MU 6

The UAH offense was off and running in the early going, putting up four runs in the first three innings before McKendree took a 5-4 lead in the fourth inning. The Chargers would go on to score six more runs while holding the Bearcats to just one over the remainder of the game.

Three UAH hitters had three hit performances in the game as Carson Villalta, Brock Butler, and Merik Carter each contributed a trio of hits with Carter smashing one home run. 

Caleb Mahan, Butler, and Carter each had two RBI while Villalta had one. 

On the mound, Will Hotalen got the start and went 5.2 innings before being relieved by Carson Herring who would ultimately secure the win with 3.1 innings of work and zero earned runs against. Hotalen recorded five strikeouts while Herring tallied four.

Game 2: UAH 12 - MU 11

McKendree scored nine of the game's first 12 runs in game two, with UAH flipping the script in the seven inning game outscoring the Bearcats 9-to-2 in the final three innings. The game ended with a total of six Chargers getting walked or hit by pitches in the seventh inning, with Jackson Lindsey ultimately drawing the walk-off walk.

Carter and Villalta continued their hot days at the plate with the two being the only Chargers with multi-hit performances in game two. Lindsey had three RBI, while Butler and Villalta each had a pair of RBI.

Cole Loftis recorded four innings of solid work on the mound as he struck out two and gave up just one earned run. Cory Hagood came on for the win, striking out one and giving up no hits.
