Baseball Sweeps First Home Series With 11-4 Win Over McKendree

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team won the third game and swept the series in a Friday matchup against McKendree in non-conference play at Charger Park, winning 11-4. UAH improved to 5-2 on the season, their best start to a season since a 6-1 start in 2015, while McKendree fell to 0-3.

Game three of the series started with a bang for the Chargers as the first three batters reached base before a JC Wilburn grand slam put them up 4-0, a lead they would never surrender. UAH only scored in one other inning as they put up seven runs on two hits in the fifth inning.

Wilburn led UAH with the only extra-base hit and in RBI, totaling six of them, while Austin Reed, Jackson Lindsey, and Colin Baeder each contributed one RBI apiece.

The Chargers racked up 10 drawn walks in the game along with two hit-by-pitches. Daniel McCary, Lindsey, and Wilburn each drew two walks.

On the mound, Jacob Peters got his first win of the season in 5 innings of work, giving up three runs on four hits with four strikeouts. The Blue & White had efficient relief pitching in the game as they combined for just one earned run against amongst four pitchers.

Logan Mooney, Trey Wright, and Tanner Giles each went one inning in relief with no earned runs, while Jonah Smith gave up just one run in an inning of work with two strikeouts.

Next up for UAH is a midweek matchup with Miles on Tuesday before beginning Gulf South Conference play next weekend against Mississippi College.
