Baseball Splits Saturday Doubleheader at Valdosta State

VALDOSTA, Ga. | The UAH baseball team split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader at Valdosta State on Saturday, losing game one 15-5 before bouncing back for a 9-5 victory in game two. The Chargers are now 15-11 (4-8 GSC), while the Blazers are 13-11 (8-7 GSC).

UAH will head back to Charger Park on Tuesday when they host Auburn Montgomery for a midweek non-conference matchup prior to a GSC home series against Montevallo next weekend.

G1: VSU 15 - UAH 5

In game one of the doubleheader, Valdosta State continued their dominant hitting performance, racking up 15 runs after a 23 run game one showing. The Chargers tallied 14 hits in the game, including a three-hit outing for Merik Carter. JC Wilburn, Ramie Harrison, and Hunter Tillman each had two hits in the game, as Tillman drove in two RBI.

Nine Charger batters recorded hits in the game, but could not keep pace with the Blazer offense that had 20 hits in game one.

G2: UAH 9 - VSU 5

Game two saw the tides turn for the Chargers as they were able to capitalize with runners-on-base, totaling nine runs on 10 hits in the series finale. The Blue & White had three innings in which they scored two or more runs, taking a 2-0 lead in the first and never relinquished the lead after regaining the lead in the fourth inning at 5-2.

At the plate, Jackson Lindsey led the way for UAH, putting up three hits and two RBI. Presley Walker had the lone extra-base hit as he knocked an RBI double in the fifth inning. Carter, Harrison, and Tillman each contributed two RBI to the winning cause.

On the hill, Tanner Giles got his first win of the season in relief of starter Cory Hagood who went four innings with four earned runs against and three strikeouts. Giles pitched three innings and gave up no earned runs.
