Baseball Drops Two Extra-Inning Games to Montevallo

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team dropped a pair of extra inning Gulf South Conference games against Montevallo on Saturday at Charger Park with a 9-6 loss in game one and a 7-6 loss in game two.

The Chargers will attempt to stave off the sweep as they host the Falcons again tomorrow at noon.

G1: UM 9, UAH 6 (10 inn.)

In game one, UAH jumped to an early lead as they led 2-0 heading into the fourth inning. The lead would change hands six total times throughout the contest from that point on. The Blue & White used a rally in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra-innings as they scored three.

The Chargers out-hit the Falcons 12 to 11 as seven UAH batters recorded hits and five had multiple hits. Merik Carter, Carson Villalta, Will Noles, Jackson Lindsey, and Ramie Harrison each had two hits apiece. Caleb Mahan, Noles, and Carter accounted for all of the extra-base hits for UAH, each with a double.

Jacob Peters got the start on the mound and pitched 7.1 innings with five strikeouts and gave up four earned runs.

G2: UM 7, UAH 6 (8 inn.)

UAH was first on the board again in game two and held a lead as large as three runs into the sixth inning at 5-2. The Chargers could not hold onto the lead as the Falcons scored four in the sixth to take a 6-5 lead.

Dylan Johnston, Hunter Tillman and Villalta led the way at the plate for UAH with each tallying a pair of hits. Carter had the lone extra-base hit for the Chargers with his second double of the day.

Cory Hagood pitched 5.2 innings as the starter in game two and struck out five as he gave up two earned runs. Carson Herring pitched 2.1 innings with no earned runs and was ruled the losing pitcher.
