Softball Set for First Charger Park Action in 2024

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team is at Charger Park for the first time in the 2024 campaign with a Gulf South Conference three-game series slated against Delta State that features a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
The series was originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, but rain in Friday's forecast forced the day delay.

Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free again this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

UAH enters the weekend with a 14-7 overall record and a 2-4 mark in GSC play so far this season, after most recently dropping a GSC series at West Florida with one win and two losses.
 
The Chargers offense is highlighted by a total of four players batting .375 or higher through 21 games in 2024, led by Alexa Douthitt who paces UAH with a .439 batting average and .727 slugging percentage.
 
The Madison, Alabama, native has a total of 10 extra-base hits with five doubles, one triple and four home runs as she ranks eighth in the GSC in batting average and 23rd in slugging percentage.
 
Also hitting .375 or higher so far for UAH includes Lawren Hayes (.397), Maddie Cartron (.379), and Jada Henderson (.375).
 
In the circle, the Chargers boast a 2.44 team ERA which is first in the GSC and top 50 in NCAA Division II. Katie Bracken (2.27), Grace O'Berry (2.43) and Josie Thompson (2.55) all boast sub-2.60 ERAs this season, with Bracken hurling a team-high 58.2 innings.
 
Bracken also leads the UAH pitching staff with 66 strikeouts to rate third in the GSC.
 
Delta State comes into the three-game set in the Rocket City with a 3-18 overall record that includes a 1-5 mark in GSC play, following a series loss at Montevallo over the weekend. The Statesmen average 4.3 runs per game, as Sydney Pewey leads DSU's offense with seven extra-base hits and a .339 batting average.
 
UAH holds a 54-20 all-time record against Delta State, as the Chargers swept the Statesmen in Cleveland, Mississippi, last season on April 1-2.
 
After this weekend's series, UAH hits the road to Valdosta State on March 15-16 to continue GSC play.
