Softball Back at Charger Park Friday and Saturday for GSC Series with Shorter

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team returns to Charger Park for a three-game Gulf South Conference series this Friday and Saturday against visiting Shorter. Friday's first pitch is slated for 5 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.

Admission to all regular season games at Charger Park is free this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers enter the weekend with an overall record of 30-12 and a 15-6 mark in GSC play, which has the squad in a three-way tie for second place in the league standings.
 
UAH most recently stepped out of conference action on Wednesday with a split doubleheader at No. 2 North Georgia, which came on the heels of the Chargers third consecutive GSC series sweep over the weekend at West Georgia.
 
The Chargers offense continues lead the way ranking in the top four in the GSC in batting average (.342), runs (309), hits (384), home runs (57), RBI (278), total bases (632) and walks (147). Alexa Douthitt paces the UAH bats, rating in the top four in the league with a .457 batting average and 108 total bases.
 
UAH's pitching staff is one of four teams in the GSC sporting team ERAs under 4.00, as the Chargers are third in the GSC with a 3.50 ERA over 266.1 innings pitched. Josie Thompson is currently fourth in the conference with a 2.74 ERA in 81.2 innings of work, with Katie Bracken 10th at a 3.25 ERA over 112.0 frames.
 
Shorter enters the three-game set at 2-39 and 1-23 in GSC games, after most recently falling in both games of a doubleheader at Georgia Southwestern State on Tuesday. The Hawks average 2.4 runs per game, while the SU pitching staff has a 9.97 team ERA. Rylee Gattis leads Shorter's offense with a .317 average, four doubles and eight home runs.
 
UAH holds an all-time series record of 21-9 against Shorter, with the Chargers currently on a nine-game win streak against the Hawks dating back to the 2021 season.
 
After this weekend's home series, the Chargers hit the road to West Alabama next Friday and Saturday to continue the GSC slate.
