Baseball Uses Late Homer to Defeat Union

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team won the first game of a three-game Gulf South Conference home series against Union on Friday evening at Charger Park 8-6 in a back-and-forth contest. The Chargers improved to 23-22 (10-18 GSC), as the Bulldogs dropped to 17-27 (11-17 GSC).

UAH got on the board first in Friday's game and they would score one run in each of the first three innings of the game. The Chargers and Bulldogs exchanged the lead four times throughout the remainder of the game, with UAH ultimately claiming their final lead in the bottom of the eighth on a three-run homer from Jackson Lindsey.

At the plate, Lindsey led the Chargers in RBI with four and posted a 2-for-5 showing with the three-run home run and an RBI single. Brock Butler and Hugh Windle contributed an RBI each in the game, with Butler knocking an RBI double.

Caleb Mahan and Dylan Johnston each had three hits in Friday's game, going 3-for-4 and 3-for-5, respectively. Mahan also scored three runs with a stolen base to lead UAH.

Will Tarpley got the start on the mound for the Chargers and pitched five complete innings with four earned runs against him. He struck out five before being relieved by Tanner Giles in the sixth inning. Giles pitched two innings and surrendered just one earned run, while Cory Hagood earned the win in relief of Giles also pitching two innings.

UAH and Union will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader on Senior Day at Charger Park. The two-game set begins at noon.
