OXFORD, Ala. | The UAH softball team opens play at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Softball Championships on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Choccolocco Park as the fourth seed against fifth-seeded Valdosta State.

UAH earned the No. 4 seed in the GSC tournament after ending the regular season with a 37-14 overall record and a 22-8 mark in conference play, as the Chargers wrapped up pre-championship play with a series win at home over Union last weekend.

This will be the 28th time in program history the Chargers have competed in the GSC tournament, as the Blue & White have a 77-36 overall record in the league's postseason. UAH has won the GSC Championships nine times, most recently last season.

The Chargers boast one of the most potent offenses in the GSC with a team .339 batting average and 364 total runs scored, led by
Alexa Douthitt with a team-high .468 average to go along with 54 runs, 12 doubles, 14 homers and 59 RBI.

UAH's offense features a total of six batters with averages of .325 or higher, as Douthitt leads the way at .468 followed by
Jada Henderson at .438 and
Lawren Hayes at .423. The squad also has five players with 80 or more total bases this season, with the Chargers slugging .565 as a team.

The Blue & White's pitching staff ranks third in the GSC with a 3.46 earned run average, guided by
Josie Thompson (2.58 ERA) and
Katie Bracken (3.27 ERA) who both rank in the top 10 in the league.

UAH holds a 77-55 all-time record when playing Valdosta State, as the Blazers took two-of-three from the Chargers in this season's matchup. The Chargers also own a 12-9 record when playing the Blazers in the GSC tournament.

Valdosta State enters the postseason at an overall record of 29-21 that includes a 19-11 mark in GSC play, after most recently dropping two-of-three to West Georgia on the final weekend of the regular season. The Blazers average 7.54 runs per game, led by Abby Sulte and Aniston Gano with 20-plus home runs and 60-plus RBI each. VSU's pitching staff has a 4.97 team ERA, guided by Madison Lumpp at 3.89.

The winner of Wednesday's matchup moves on to play the winner of No. 1 seed Mississippi College and No. 8 seed Lee on Thursday at 6 p.m., while the loser takes on the loser of MC/Lee Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
