Baseball Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader to Clinch Series at West Georgia

CARROLLTON, Ga. | The UAH baseball team swept a Saturday doubleheader of a Gulf South Conference series at West Georgia on Saturday afternoon with a 6-5 victory in game one and a 9-3 win in the second game. The Chargers are now 18-19 (6-15 GSC), while the Wolves are now 18-19 (10-11 GSC).

The Chargers return to the diamond on Tuesday when they head to Jefferson City, Tennessee, to take on Carson-Newman.

G1: UAH 6, UWG 5

The first game of the series kicked off with a two-run first by the Chargers as the Wolves had to fight back from the start, eventually tying the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, UAH scored four runs and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

At the plate, Dylan Johnston and JC Wilburn each had a pair of hits, with Johnston contributing a team-high two RBI in a 2-for-4 showing. Brock Butler went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Carson Herring got the start on the mound for UAH and went 4.0 innings before Cory Hagood came in and recorded the win, as he pitched 5.0 innings and gave up just one run. Herring struck out three and gave up no earned runs.

G2: UAH 9, UWG 3

In game two, the Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the second inning, but a Lindsey grand slam in the third inning jump-started the Charger scoring as they would go on to score at least one run except the sixth the rest of the way.

At the plate, Lindsey had two home runs and five RBI in a 3-for-4 appearance at the plate. Merik Carter and Butler each contributed two RBI as well, with Butler going 2-for-5 and Carter going 2-for-4.

On the hill, Trey Wright got the victory pitching 6.0 innings and surrendering no runs on one hit as he struck out two UWG batters.
