Volleyball Wins a Pair of Friday Matches at UAH Invitational

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH volleyball team went 2-0 in day one of action at the UAH Invitational presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-18) win over Tusculum (2-5) and a 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-11) victory against Harding (4-3). 

The Chargers are now 5-0 on the season and hold a 16 match home win streak.

Game 1 (UAH 3, TU 0):

The Chargers won the first of their pair of Friday matches against the Pioneers with four different players recording at least seven kills and a team attack percentage of .333.

With the win, UAH recorded its third straight victory over Tusculum and moved to 3-6 all-time in the series. 

Autumn Mayes led the way for UAH in kills as she posted 11 kills with a .269 hitting percentage. She also posted a team-high 16 digs. 

Mary Grace Bundrant had a highly efficient match as she notched nine kills on 11 attempts for a stellar .818 hitting percentage. Her attack percentage ranks second all-time for a single match in Charger history.

On defense, Tatiana Bonilla contributed 14 digs, while Kayla Ward had three block assists for the Chargers. 

Game 2 (UAH 3, HU 2):

Friday's second match was a thriller as the Chargers needed a reverse sweep to take a 3-2 victory over Harding. UAH posted their highest team block total since 2012 with 20 on the night, as Ward led the way with four solo blocks and three block assists. 

Mayes led the team in kills with 16, while Zoe Smith tallied 14 on a .323 attack percentage. Ward also contributed nine kills to the winning cause, hitting a .533 percentage. 

Savannah Rutledge had 30 assists and four Chargers had 10 or more digs in the match, with Bonilla leading the way at 21 digs. 

The Chargers have a quick turnaround as they face off with the No. 12 Ferris State Bulldogs at 10 am tomorrow morning and Emmanuel (Ga.) at 4:45 pm to wrap up the UAH Invitational.
