Volleyball Finishes Undefeated GSC/PBC Crossover Weekend

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The UAH volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday at the Gulf South Conference/Peach Belt Conference Crossover hosted by Montevallo, as they defeated Lander 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-11) and No. 22 Augusta 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23). 

The Chargers improved to 9-1 following Saturday's wins and are off to their best start since the 2015 season in which they started 11-0. 

G1: UAH 3, Lander 0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-11)

The Chargers blitzed the Bearcats in match number one of the day, narrowly winning the first set and then closing out the match convincingly in the final two sets. 

UAH outhit Lander with a .265 attack percentage, compared to just a .011 attack percentage for the Bearcats. Caroline Moyer led the offensive side for the Chargers as she slammed a season-high 17 kills on a .419 attack percentage. 

Mary Grace Bundrant had three solo denials for the Blue & White and two block assists to highlight the defensive end, while Tatiana Bonilla led the squad in digs with 15. 

G2: UAH 3, No. 22 Augusta 1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-21, 25-23)

Match number two of the day went the Chargers way as they used their defensive prowess to outmatch the Jaguars in a 3-1 win. UAH had 14 blocks in the match, compared to nine blocks for the Jags. 

Offensively, the Chargers were led by Autumn Mayes and Moyer who had eight kills apiece, while Savannah Rutledge dished out a team-high 23 assists. Five different UAH players recorded aces in the match, with Rutledge and Mayes each totaling two.

Kayla Ward had two solo blocks on the defensive end along with five block assists, while Bundrant posted two solo denials and four block assists. Five Chargers had block assists for the stalwart defense. 

UAH will get back in action as they kick off GSC play against Mississippi College on Tuesday night in Spragins Hall at 6 pm.
