CLEVELAND, Tenn. | The UAH women's soccer team went unbeaten on the first weekend of Gulf South Conference play this season with a 1-1 tie at Lee on Sunday afternoon on the road. UAH's record now stands at 2-3-1 (1-0-1 GSC), while LU moves to 1-2-3 (1-0-1 GSC).
Â
The Flames took a 1-0 lead into halftime after a goal by Isabella Valentine in the 22nd minute, but UAH knotted the game late in the 81st minute with
Michella Tortelli's tally. Both slides played out the final nine minutes to the 1-1 draw.
Â
Tortelli's goal was the first of her collegiate career as she becomes the third goal-scorer by the Chargers in the 2024 campaign.
Â
CeCe Szopa was stellar in goal for the Chargers, with the sophomore totaling seven saves and one goal allowed in the tie. She has now held opponents to one goal or less in six consecutive games to start 2024, while her seven stops tie her season-high.
Â
The Chargers defense was also benefited from 90-minute performances by defenders
Emily Labus and
Campbell Tarentino, who helped Szopa navigate seven corner kicks by the Flames.
Â
UAH looks to continue its unbeaten streak in GSC play on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Charger Park with a visit from Montevallo.
