Volleyball Improves to 3-0 After Weekend in Nashville

NASHVILLE | The UAH volleyball team capped off a perfect weekend in the Music City with a pair of wins on Saturday, defeating Southwestern Oklahoma State 3-2 (18-25, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 15-11) and Davenport (25-15, 25-20, 18-25, 25-23). 

The Chargers are now 3-0 on the season, their best start since their 2019 campaign when they started 6-0.

Game 1 (UAH 3, SWOSU 2):

The Chargers won the first of their pair of Saturday matches coming back from a 2-1 deficit after three sets against Southwestern Oklahoma State. UAH won the final two sets 25-19 and 15-11 against the Bulldogs to secure a victory. 

With the win, UAH moves to 3-0 all-time against SWOSU. 

Grace-Blythe Cornett and Autumn Mayes each totaled over a dozen kills for the match, with Cornett tallying 15 and Mayes racking up 13. Ashleigh Murr and Savannah Rutledge totaled 22 and 19 assists, respectively.

On defense, the Chargers were led by Tatiana Bonilla with 19 digs, while Mary Grace Bundrant provided four blocks. 

Game 2 (UAH 3, Davenport 1):

Saturday's second match saw the Chargers take a 2-0 lead with a 25-15 and 25-20 victory in the first two sets. Davenport won the third before UAH closed the match out with a 25-23 win in the fourth set. 

The matchup was the first between the Chargers and Panthers. 

Mayes once again highlighted the Charger offense with 10 kills in the match, while Murr and Rutledge combined for 36 assists. Bonilla and Kaila Sisk each contributed three aces to the UAH victory. 

The Chargers return to action on Friday at the UAH Invitational presented by the Huntsville Sports Commission.
