HUNTSVILLE | The No. 5 UAH men's basketball team dominated in a 79-52 win on Military Appreciation Day for their 16th straight victory as they took down Gulf South Conference opponent West Alabama at Kelly Court in Spragins Hall. The Chargers improved to 16-1 (11-0 GSC) with the win, while the Tigers dropped to 8-8 (5-6 GSC).
Luke Burnett put his name into the GSC record books during the evening's game, as he recorded two made three pointers to put himself at 405 career made threes to claim the GSC career record in the category.
For the second straight game, the Chargers held their opponent under 40 percent from the field as the Tigers shot just 38.6 percent from the field in a 22-for-57 performance. The UAH also outrebounded UWA 40-to-28, including a nine defensive rebound advantage.
Tommy Murr scored 24 points to lead the Chargers on Saturday as he shot 9-for-15 from the field and 4-for-10 from three point land. The senior from Athens, Alabama, also recorded five assists for the 13th time this season.
Daniel Saylor scored 13 points and went 6-for-8 from the field with eight rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Matt Thurman rounded out the Chargers in double-digits as he scored 11 points with a pair of three pointers. The Franklin, Tennessee, native also added eight rebounds in the win.
The Chargers tallied 18 assists in the victory, while the Tigers had just four assists. UAH also outpaced UWA in points in the paint 36-to-26.
UAH heads on the road next week as they travel to Valdosta State for a 7 pm game on Thursday before a matchup at West Florida next Saturday.
