VALDOSTA, Ga. | The No. 4 UAH men's basketball team won an overtime thriller on the road on Monday evening against the second-place team in the Gulf South Conference No. 11 Valdosta State 97-95.
Daniel Saylor fought for an offensive rebound with under three seconds remaining in overtime and laid the ball in as time expired to propel the Chargers to their 18th straight victory.
UAH improved to 18-1 (13-0 GSC) with the win, while the Blazers dropped to 16-3 (11-2 GSC).
Blake Campbell led the Chargers in scoring on Monday with a game-high 30 points and added six rebounds in the win. Campbell hit the game-tying free throws late in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
Saylor recorded his eighth double-double of the season as the Charger big man put up 14 points, 10 rebounds, and added his 47th block of the season.
Luke Burnett and
Matt Thurman accounted for seven of UAH's eight three pointers in the game, as Burnett knocked down four with 19 points in the game and Thurman netted three as he scored 15 points.
Tommy Murr scored six of the Chargers' nine points in overtime after he had put up just seven through the first two halves. Murr put up his 26th consecutive double-digit scoring game in the win.
UAH held a narrow margin in points in the paint that proved to be the difference as they outscored the Blazers 56-to-50 in the painted area.
The Chargers return home for a matchup against Lee on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Spragins Hall.
