HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The UAH women's soccer team fell 2-0 to West Alabama on Friday evening at Charger Park in Gulf South Conference action. With the result, the Chargers move to 6-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in GSC play, while the Tigers improve to 10-2-2 (7-2-1 GSC).
After a scoreless opening half, West Alabama broke through late as Jade Arruda netted the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute. The Tigers added insurance in the 83rd minute when Selis Demirci found the back of the net off an assist from Summer Fox.
UAH controlled much of the second half, outshooting UWA 11-3 in that frame and 13-6 overall, while also holding an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. Evelina Gustafsson, Taylor Fegley, Chelsey Curtis, and Jayla Gillespie each tallied a shot on goal for the Chargers.
Seniors Tristin Del Toro, Jayla Gillespie, Sabrina Da Silva, Morgan Snyder, and Olivia Marlow were recognized prior to the match in honor of their dedication and contributions to the UAH women's soccer program as they competed in their final conference matchup at Charger Park.
The Chargers will wrap up their regular season next weekend on the road, visiting West Florida on Friday, Oct. 31, at 5 p.m. in Pensacola before closing out GSCÂ conference play against Spring Hill on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 1 p.m. in Mobile.
