HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | UAH women's soccer team shut out Valdosta State 3-0 on Sunday afternoon for its fifth win of the season.
After a scoreless first half, Carley White broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, finishing a pass from Evelina Gustafsson for her second goal of the year to give UAH a 1-0 lead. The score held until the 70th minute, when Sabrina Da Silva checked in and found the back of the net just 30 seconds later off an assist from Katey Ann Klingel.
Five minutes later, Da Silva turned provider, sending a pass to Michella Tortelli, who scored the final goal of the match to secure the 3-0 victory.
The UAH defense was dominant, holding Valdosta State to just three total shots and only one on goal. Goalkeeper Cece Szopa recorded her third shutout of the season and the eighth of her career.
The Chargers hit the road next week, traveling to Jackson, Tenn., to face Union on Friday, Oct. 11, at 5 p.m. They'll then head to Memphis to take on Christian Brothers on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. UAH returns home Friday, Oct. 17, to host Mississippi College at 5 p.m. at Charger Park.
