Baseball Splits Friday Doubleheader with Christian Brothers in GSC Opener, Saturday Game Moved to 11 AM

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team split a Friday doubleheader against Christian Brothers to open up Gulf South Conference play as they won 6-5 in game one before falling 5-2 in the second game of the day.

The Chargers are now 6-4 (1-1 GSC), while the Buccaneers are now 5-4 (1-1 GSC) after Friday's games.

The two teams will face off again Saturday at 11 a.m. with another schedule change due to the forecast. The series was initially scheduled for a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.

G1: UAH 6, CBU 5

In game one, the Chargers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the second before Brock Butler sent a solo homer over the left field wall to draw the teams even at 1-1. Caleb Mahan and Will Noles each added a pair of RBI, while Jackson Lindsey tallied one. 

Mahan and Butler each had two hits in the game to lead UAH at the plate, while eight Charger batters recorded hits in the game. 

Will Tarpley earned his second win of the season as he improved to 2-0 as a starter as he pitched six innings and gave up four earned runs. The senior struck out five CBU batters in his outing. Jacob Peters pitched two innings in relief and gave up one earned run, while Cory Hagood ultimately earned a two-inning save as he shut the door on a Bucs comeback bid. 

G2: CBU 5, UAH 2 

Game two saw the Charger bats go cold as they were held to just one hit till the seventh inning of the seven inning contest. 

Taylor Bush was the lone UAH starter to record a hit as he knocked a double off the upper half of the left-center fence. Braxton Griffin and Connor Wilson each added a hit as they came on as pinch hitters in the bottom of the seventh, putting UAH in position with the tying run in the on-deck circle. 

Collin Patterson had his first loss of the season on the mound as he pitched 4.1 innings, struck out seven batters, and gave up five earned runs. Hunter MacLeod pitched 2.2 innings and surrendered just one hit and no earned runs as he struck out four Bucs.
