Softball Hosts Union in Three-Game Series Friday and Saturday at Charger Park

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH softball team welcomes Union to Charger Park for a three-game Gulf South Conference series, beginning with a doubleheader Friday 1 p.m. followed by the series finale Saturday at 12 p.m. This series was originally scheduled to be played at Union, but was moved to Huntsville due to heavy rain in the Jackson, Tennessee, area.
 
Admission to all UAH softball regular season home games is free this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers come into the weekend series with a 19-17 overall record that includes an 11-9 mark in GSC play this season, after sweeping a doubleheader last Friday at Delta State by scores of 8-2 and 11-1.
 
UAH is currently sixth in the GSC standings entering the final four regular season conference series.
 
The Chargers offense boasts three players batting .350 or higher so far this season, guided by Maddie Cartron with a team-best .382 batting average and .686 slugging percentage. Both Jada Henderson (.379 BA) and Brittany Slaten (.352 BA) join Cartron with batting averages of .350 or higher.
 
Cartron additionally leads the Chargers and is tied for sixth in the GSC with eight home runs, while Henderson is tied for the league lead with 14 doubles.
 
UAH's pitching staff starts out the weekend with a 3.90 team ERA, led by Katie Bracken with a 2.89 ERA over a team-high 111.1 innings pitched. She is also second in the conference with 130 strikeouts in her junior campaign.
 
Union comes into the three-game set with an 8-29 overall record and a 5-17 record in GSC games, following a doubleheader split with Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday. The Bulldogs average 2.3 runs per game this season, while the UU pitching staff owns a 5.93 team ERA.
 
The Chargers hold an all-time series record of 28-7 against the Bulldogs.
 
After this weekend's series, UAH continues the homestand next weekend with a visit from Mississippi College.
