HOUSTON, TX | Baseball opened the 2026 season with a 12–3 loss to North Greenville Crusaders baseball on Friday at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros, as part of the 2026 Houston Winter Invitational.
UAH struck first in the top of the first inning, as freshman Gunnar Waldrop scored on an RBI double by Taylor Bush to give the Chargers the first run of the 2026 season.
North Greenville responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Junior transfer Zach Murphy made the opening-day start for UAH but struggled with control, issuing five walks and allowing six runs before being relieved. Murphy was charged with the loss, falling to 0–1 on the season.
The Chargers briefly cut into the deficit in the top of the third inning when Luke Songy drove a hard line drive off the manual scoreboard in left field, scoring Sean Lapinske and Taylor Bush.
North Greenville answered again, adding several more runs over the middle innings to pull away and secure the 12–3 victory.
UAH will return to action Saturday morning against Ashland. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT, with coverage available on The Charger Zone via 97.7 ESPN The Zone.
