Baseball Wins First-Ever Indoor Game in Rout of Ashland

HOUSTON, TX | Baseball picked up their first win of the season Saturday with a dominant offensive performance against Ashland during the 2026 Houston Winter Invitational at Daikin Park.

With the roof closed, the game marked the first time in program history that the program has played indoors.

UAH jumped on Ashland early, scoring the first eight runs of the game, including three in the opening inning. The Chargers plated at least three runs in four separate innings, scoring three in the first, sixth and eighth innings, and erupting for seven runs in the ninth.

Cole Loftis earned the start for UAH and did not allow a run across four innings of work, striking out four. Jake Cardin picked up the win in relief, tossing one scoreless inning while allowing just one hit.

Offensively, two Chargers recorded three RBIs. First baseman Gavin Galenza had two hits and a walk to go along with his three RBIs, while Sean Lapinske went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk.

Galenza and Lapinske were two of six Chargers to record multi-hit games. Nathan Mayfield, CJ Carson and Gunnar Waldrop each had two hits, while shortstop Seth Staggs led the way with a three-hit performance.

UAH will close out the Houston Winter Invitational on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT, with coverage available on The Charger Zone via 97.7 ESPN The Zone.
