Lilburn, Ga. | University of Alabama in Huntsville women's basketball will enter the 2026-27 season ranked No. 3 nationally in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll, released Tuesday.
The ranking is the highest in program history and marks the Chargers' first appearance in the WBCA preseason Top 25. UAH received 465 points in the voting and is the only Gulf South Conference program represented in the national rankings.
The historic recognition follows a record-setting 2025-26 campaign in which the Chargers finished 32-6 overall and 21-1 in GSC play, capturing their first conference regular-season championship and advancing to the NCAA Division II Final Four for the first time in program history.
UAH made its first appearance in the WBCA Division II Top 25 on March 10, 2026, entering at No. 25 in the final regular-season poll before climbing to No. 4 in the postseason rankings. Tuesday's announcement marks the program's third appearance in the national Top 25.
Under head coach Allen Sharpe, UAH also enters the upcoming season as the GSC preseason favorite after receiving seven first-place votes in the conference's preseason coaches poll.
Grand Valley State occupies the top spot in the national preseason rankings, followed by Colorado Mesa at No. 2.
The Chargers will open the 2026-27 regular season Monday, Nov. 9, against LaGrange at SportsMED Arena in Spragins Hall. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
