The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's soccer team struck early and controlled much of the attacking play Friday, but the Chargers settled for a 1-1 draw against Spring Hill at Charger Park.
Michella Tortelli put UAH (4-5-1, 231 GSC) in front in the sixth minute, finishing a chance off an assist from Kaitlyn Lewis. Spring Hill answered just over eight minutes later to even the score at 1-1, where it remained through the final whistle.
UAH generated the better share of the opportunities, finishing with a 9-5 advantage in shots and placing six attempts on goal compared to three for Spring Hill (4-3-3, 3-1-2 GSC). The Chargers also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Carley White led UAH with two shots, while Edie Stickell, Caila Batchelor, Adriana Rojas and Sara Sherman each put an attempt on target. CeCe Szopa played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves.
The draw moves UAH to 4-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
UAH returns to the road Wednesday to face Montevallo before coming back to Charger Park on Saturday for a matchup with Christian Brothers.
